Things that are easier on Linux than on Mac or Windows

  • 20 000 applications and more can be installed through the Software Manager or the package management system
  • Updates can be done when you want them, on your schedule
  • You can still use your computer when updates are occurring
  • Updates cover almost all the programs you have installed, there's no need to upgrade different programs at random different times
  • Updates include security fixes and program improvements
  • Updates are smaller than on Windows
  • No anti-virus necessary, and no worries if it's updated or configured properly or working correctly
  • Spyware or malware removal not necessary
  • Multiple desktops
  • Support forums where people know what they're talking about
  • Filename extensions are not hidden by default, and files are not executable by default, improving security by a lot
  • Generally Linux is a lot safer (more secure)
  • Linux runs on older and cheaper computers than Windows or Mac OS X
  • Linux is usually free
